Dementia Signage
Helping people with dementia find their way
Working with our academic partners at the Universities of Edinburgh and Stirling we’ve challenged the signage typically used in care environments. This robust review of common signage products highlighted key factors relating to how people with dementia often find this signage confusing, become disorientated and lose confidence in their independence.
The academic input confirmed a real need for improvement and opened access to workshops where we shared our design recommendations. We listened to feedback from people living with dementia and developed the design to have a positive impact for its intended audience. As a result of this collaboration, we’ve developed a set of comprehensive design guidelines for creating consistent and effective dementia signage.
Our focus is on increasing independence, confidence and wellbeing for older people and people living with dementia, and improving the experience for visitors, families and staff in care homes, hospitals and other relevant environments.
